Graduate profile
Our Graduate Profile reflects our values and expectations to inspire and develop our knowledge, skills and attitudes. Students are focused on achieving these learning goals and values as they prepare to leave and graduate from Cargill School. But first, our vision is “To grow confident, respectful leaders, meeting the challenges of success in learning and gain knowledge to support life skills.”
We recall our founding four values that we reflect in our learning journey's from the source, "Te Whare Tapu o te Ngākau Māori".
-
Ngākau Kaitiaki - Custodianship
-
Ngākau Manaaki - Nurturing
-
Ngākau Whānau - Kinship
-
Ngākau Māhaki - Humility, Compassion, Generosity, Service
Te Tomokanga
As we have adopted the values from "Te Whare Tapu o te Ngākau Māori" from Māori Achievement Collaborative, we have included the progressions found in the Student Profile. The learning outcomes have been likened to the physical and spiritual realm of the entrance (tomokanga), hīkoi onto the marae-a-tea, arrival at the whatau to the whare tupuna and the features of whakairo and representation of tūpuna.
When we stand at the tomokanga, we begin to focus our "karu" on the critical areas of knowledge and begin to explore learning contexts, settings and experiences. We prepare our learning pathways to "hikoi" or walk onto the marae, learning tikanga and beginning our journey into the domain of the marae.
Marae Ātea
Our hīkoi and journey of learning has begun and we have moved past the tomokanga, the entrance onto the marae. We are becoming familiar with learning about Te Ao Māori and our focus is on specific tīkanga with Te Reo Māori. Sometimes our exploration of learning experiences causes us to probe deeper into inquiry and contexts such as historical events. We can explain and recognise the actions, language and protocol on the marae ātea. We are curious and ask questions as "seekers of knowledge".
